6:300-AP4 Batavia High School Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2020

Governor JB Pritzker issued Executive Order 2020-31 in April 2020 to prevent COVID-19 from disrupting the advancement of students anticipating graduation. The Illinois State Board of Education adopted emergency rules to allow for flexibility in graduation requirements. These updated graduation requirements are only applicable to Batavia High School students in the Class of 2020. 

The following minimum requirements must be met by all students before being awarded a diploma of graduation:

The total of 22 credits must include these required courses:

  • 3.5 credits of English;
  • 2.5 credits of mathematics;
  • 1.5 credits of science;
  • 3.0 credits of social studies;
  • 0.5 credit chosen from any of the following:
    • art;
    • music;
    • world language;
    • vocational education (CTE)

Seniors enrolled in a one-credit class who have not successfully completed the full course can be considered for a half-credit option. If the course is required for graduation and the student has completed at least 50% of the course,  a 0.5 credit will be awarded. The other 0.5 credit will be designated as an incomplete on their transcript. 

Additionally,

  • The Class of 2020 is exempted from physical education participation and health requirements
  • The Class of 2020 is exempted from consumer education requirement
  • The Class of 2020 is exempted from the requirement to participate in the state’s final accountability assessment 
  • The Class of 2020 is exempted from the government and Constitution test requirement
  • The Class of 2020 is shall not be denied credit for substituted courses due to the student’s inability to complete the course during suspension of in-person instruction
