Remote Grading

According to BOE policy, 6:280, the purpose of grades is to communicate student progress and provide feedback to students to use in the learning process.

With a grading focus on feedback, please know that feedback can take many forms other than a grade. Feedback may include:

  • Scored quizzes and tests
  • Written comments on student work
  • Verbal feedback
  • Scoring rubrics
  • Comments and grades in PowerSchool
  • Self-reflection or peer feedback
  • Discussion/Conferences

When developing final grades for a course, teachers will consider grades prior to the start of remote learning as well as continued, demonstrated progress toward essential learning targets.

Based on this guidance and the recommendations from the IL State Board of Education, the following revisions will be in effect during the remote learning period.

Elementary

Students in grades PreK-5 will not receive a grade; other forms of feedback will be provided by your child’s classroom teacher.  Specific feedback on literacy and numeracy skills will be provided to parents.

Middle School

All middle school students will be issued a P (Pass) or I (Incomplete). A mark of pass will mean the student has shown some mastery, even if assistance is needed, of the essential learning standards for the class or subject area.

Any student earning an incomplete will be given a remediation period with additional support to show mastery of the essential learning standards.

High School

All high school students will be issued one of four final marks, A, B, Pass, or Incomplete. When developing final grades for a course, teachers will consider grades prior to the start of remote learning as well as continued, demonstrated progress toward essential learning targets.

Grades of Pass or Incomplete will not be calculated into a student’s GPA. Any student earning an incomplete will be given a remediation period with additional support to show mastery of the essential learning standards. Credits will be awarded for A, B, and Pass ratings.

Summary of High School Grades

  • A (Credit & GPA Points Awarded)
  • B (Credit & GPA Points Awarded)
