Scholastic Bowl Team Headed to NAQT State Meet

On Sat., Feb. 11, the BHS Scholastic Bowl team is headed to the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) State Meet in Champaign, Ill.

Scholastic Bowl is an academic trivia competition that tests both individual and team knowledge. Students are asked a variety of questions in the subjects of math, science, social studies, literature, fine arts, and a miscellaneous category. The questions are ridiculously HARD!

In each competition a moderator first asks a “toss up” question to both teams of five students. Whichever team gets the toss up correct gets control of the following three bonus questions. If a team gets a bonus question wrong, the other team can attempt to steal.  Every question is worth 10 points, there are 24 toss ups, and 24 bonuses.

According to Dan Renz, team coach and BHS science teacher, “Scholastic Bowl gives students a chance to bond and have fun in ways they generally could not or would not. These kids are very smart, they work hard, and I am very proud of them.”
