To make it to the Marmion Junior High Math Contest, RMS students in the “Mathletes Club” competed in a “Math Off” competition during practice. Mathletes practice with their coach, Chris Ozarka, every Friday after school from October through May. Mr. Ozarka is a math and computer science teacher at Batavia High School.

The Marmion contest is divided into two rounds and topics ranged from Pre-Algebra through Geometry. The first round is an individual competition where each student completes a 20-question written test on his or her own. The second round is a team competition where groups of five students work together on a different 20-question test.

Overall, Rotolo Middle School’s “Team 1” took second place in the contest while
“Team 2” came in fourth. This was a first in the history of the contest—one school having two teams place in the top five.

Way to go RMS Mathletes!
