Board Highlights: March 19, 2019

Celebration: Grace McWayne Question Formulation Technique

Grace McWayne Elementary School Principal Jeff Modaff and Instructional Coach Kelly Woodard shared with Board Members that all GMS students now know how to use Question Formulation Technique (QFT). This important skill helps students produce their own questions, improve them, and strategize how to use them. And, as students produce, work with, and use their own questions, they sharpen their critical thinking and take ownership of their learning. During the QFT celebration, three Grace McWayne second-grade students showed Board Members how to use this technique and then tested Board Members’ skills. They all passed  … and the lesson resonated with Board Vice President Jon Gaspar who later referred to QFT while discussing an action item!

Celebration: Rotolo Middle School Named a “School to Watch”—Again

Rotolo Middle School staff members celebrated the news that Rotolo Middle School has been recognized for excellence by the National Forum for the Advancement of Middle School Reform “Schools to Watch” program for its fifth designation! In January, representatives from the Association of Illinois Middle-grade Schools (AIMS) toured the building, met with students, staff and parents, and saw firsthand why Rotolo Middle School remains one to watch. Action: Extension of Transportation Contract

Board Members approved a two-year extension of the current contracts for regular education and special education transportation services with Illinois Central, Inc.

Action: Athletic Uniforms Contract

Board Members approved a three-year contract with both The Graphic Edge as well as Adidas for the purchase of athletic uniforms and spirit wear.

Action: RMS Athletic Entrance

Board Members approved the recommended renovation and remodel of the Rotolo Middle School athletic entrance and commons area by Lite Construction, Inc.

Action: Architectural and Engineering Services

Board Members approved a master architectural and engineering services contract with DLR, Inc. to engage in master planning services for educational facilities.
