Celebration: J.B. Nelson S.T.E.A.M. Lab

After three years of planning, fundraising, and building, the J.B. Nelson Elementary School S.T.E.A.M. Lab is finished and now in use. JBN Principal Nicole Prentiss shared the journey with Board Members, and explained that the new creative space was made possible with tremendous support from the JBN PTO, Watch D.O.G.S., students, staff, and community volunteers. “It truly was a labor of love,” she said.

Action: 2019-20 Academic Calendar

Board Members approved the amended 2019-20 Academic Calendar, which aligns with the Columbus Day holiday, and the amended 2018-19 Academic Calendar, which accounts for the Nov. 26, 2018, snow day.

Report: Student Services

BPS101 Student Service Director Lisa Palese presented this annual report to Board Members on the current strengths, opportunities, and challenges of Student Services at BPS101. During Mrs. Palese’s presentation, Rotolo Middle School Principal Bryan Zwemke joined her to address concerns about the proposed (and now paused) changes to the RMS master schedule, including embedding intervention and social emotional time through MTSS.  It was agreed that, going forward, better communication throughout the schedule planning process is necessary to ensure all stakeholders are informed and educated on the “why” of any proposed changes. All discussion and comments can be viewed here.
