BHS Black History Month Speakers - Feb. 28, 2023

The Black Student Union and the Equity and Justice Committee celebrated Black History Month yesterday with an event, Influential Black Voices: What’s Your Story? Each speaker gave a motivating speech on their background and how they found their true passion. Congratulations to both groups and their staff sponsors for creating such an enlightening and powerful event.

Master Kyle Tyson was a Correctional Officer and is now the owner of Tyson’s Taekwondo.

Jernelle Buckley grew up on the south side of Chicago and was a teen mom. She is now a Chief Engineer at Navistar.

Chris Lowe is a self-proclaimed recovering Architect, now stay at home dad. He also serves on the BPS101 Board of Education and started the Batavia Community Diversity Initiative.

Jenise Collins is a long-time mentor and guardian for students at Mooseheart. She is also the owner of Bulldog Nutrition in downtown Batavia.

Alton Rollerson is a long-time Guidance Counselor at Batavia High School. He tried his hand at singing and acting but found his passion here at BHS.
