Student Teaching and Clinical Experience

Batavia Public Schools District 101 works with accredited colleges and universities to develop appropriate student teaching and clinical placements.

Please note:  All pre-service candidates, from observers to student teachers, must undergo a Criminal Background Check prior to placement in Batavia schools. Students can be fingerprinted at the Kane County ROE in Geneva, IL, to complete the background check. The fingerprinting process is at the student’s expense and must be paid directly to the ROE. The cost is approximately $40. Visit www.kaneroe.org to make a fingerprinting appointment. Be aware that at busy times of the year, you may need to wait several weeks for an appointment, so complete this step as early as possible.

All student teaching and clinical placement requests must be initiated by the college or university placement office and are subject to review by appropriate staff members.  Requests may be emailed to placementcoordinator@bps101.net. A copy of the student’s transcripts must accompany the university’s request for student teacher placement. The following information must accompany requests for both student teaching and clinical placements.

  • Name, address, phone number, and email address
  • Proof that a criminal background fingerprint check with the Illinois State Police and the FBI has been completed
  • A letter from the college or university indicating the reason the request is being made, the name of the instructor, and contact information
  • Number of hours needed for the placement
  • A copy of transcripts (student teacher only)
  • Level of involvement required by the candidate
  • Level of participation required by the cooperating teacher
  • Level of interest – elementary, middle, or high school

Specify content area at the middle and high school levels.
