11: School Bus Transportation
School bus transportation is an important part of the school day. The bus is an extension of the school environment, and students are expected to help maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly ride for everyone.
Key Expectations
Students help keep the bus safe when they:
- arrive at the bus stop on time;
- wait safely and respectfully;
- follow the driver’s directions;
- stay seated when required;
- keep aisles clear;
- use appropriate language and volume;
- keep hands, feet, objects, food, and drinks to themselves;
- treat the bus and others’ property with respect.
Policy / Legal Requirements
- Free transportation is provided for students living more than 1.5 miles from school or within 1.5 miles but with hazardous routes.
- Bus misconduct can result in suspension of riding privileges.
- Video/audio surveillance may be used on buses.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation during any suspension of bus-riding privileges.
