Dear [Parents]:
This letter is to confirm the out-of-school suspension of [STUDENT]. He has been suspended from school for [REASON FOR SUSPENSION] (example: five (5) days for harassment of another student, insubordination, and inappropriate language to a staff member). He/she may return to school on [DATE] after a meeting with his counselor. Please note that repeated violations of the student handbook may result in progressive disciplinary consequences, including additional suspension days as well as a possible recommendation for expulsion.
Suspended students may not attend or participate in any extra-curricular activities, practices, etc. during the suspension period. Suspended students are not to be on the school grounds are subject to more severe penalties, which may include criminal trespass charges, if this occurs. Please note that Emergency School Closing Days are not counted as suspension days.
Students suspended will receive full credit for class work missed during suspension dates, and students and parents are strongly encouraged to keep up on daily assignments. School Board policy gives you the right to have the facts of this matter heard before a third party and the results forwarded to the Board of Education.

• “The suspension may be reduced to ________days (generally a 50% reduction) upon commitment to enroll in and complete an outside [drug/alcohol program or anger management program, depending on the offense]. If the school does not receive official verification of program completion by ___(date)________, the balance of the remaining OSS days will be re-instated.”
• Please note that drug and alcohol offenses are cumulative on a building enrollment basis and do not reset on an annual basis.”
