The District Weekly for February 21, 2024

February 21, 2024 (SPANISH)

Hello BPS101 Family-

Welcome!

As you all may have heard by now, Dr. Skomer, the Principal at Louise White Elementary School, is set to retire at the end of this school year, and he will be missed! Knowing this, we began the search prior to winter break and were able to conclude the process in time to bring our recommendation to the Board of Education last night. We are pleased to announce that Michael Wall has been selected as the next Principal of Louise White School.  If you haven’t heard yet, Mike is a past student of Louise White School, and his parents still live in the neighborhood! He is ready to hit the ground running, and you will hear a LOT more from him in the coming weeks. MORE>>

A note from the Student Services Department (For Students with an IEP)

Each year, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) gathers information from a representative sample of parents with a child receiving special education services to determine the degree to which schools throughout the state are facilitating parent involvement in their child’s education. If you are the parent of a student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), you may receive a survey in the mail from Measurement, Incorporated, the current contractor administering the ISBE survey. If you do receive the parent survey, please take a few minutes to complete it. The parent survey can be completed online or by mail. No one from BPS101 will know how you answered the survey questions.

A Note from the City of Batavia

The City of Batavia will embark on an improvement project at the Prairie and Wilson Street intersection on March 4th. This will disrupt traffic flow in the surrounding area and make commutes to our schools more challenging. The project is anticipated to be completed around December of 2024. Please be mindful of detours and one-way traffic signs and give yourself additional time to navigate the area. For additional information, check the flyer in Backpack Mail.

Parent Input Request

You are invited to participate in the parent survey supplement of the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. We guarantee that survey responses will never be connected to the identity of you or your child. School reports will only show aggregated information on how parents and students responded as a whole. Please visit http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent to take the parent survey.

Parent Vision Session – Strategic Plan Development Process

Batavia Music Buffs

Save the date for two fabulous fundraisers to benefit the Batavia Music Buffs! Saturday, April 20th, is our annual Mattress Sale at Batavia High School.  If you know a Batavia Music Student, be sure to get a flyer from them before you shop the sale. If you make a purchase and use the flyer, that student will receive a percentage of your purchase directly into their Charms account. The following day, Sunday, April 21st, will be our Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser. Tickets will be available in March, but we are currently seeking donations for raffle baskets and a silent auction. If you own a business or have new items to donate, please contact Ways and Means chair Holly Miller at vpwaysandmeans@bataviamusicbuffs.org. If you are a season ticket holder or you own a vacation property that you might not be using this year, please consider a charitable donation to the music buffs. Alternatively, we could also use monetary donations to help purchase a few big ticket items. All donations are tax deductible.
