RMS Veterans Assembly 2019
At today’s Veterans Assembly at Rotolo Middle School, veterans from different branches of the military were honored by being introduced, along with their family member that is connected to Rotolo Middle School. It was a breathtakingly beautiful celebration to give thanks to those that have served, currently serving, their families, and those that have been lost.
To honor the veterans, those who are still serving in the military, and our country’s fallen heroes, the 7th- and 8th-grade chorus performed “Soldier.” In addition, the band performed the official songs of each of the branches of the military.
The 8th graders at Rotolo Middle School have been very busy this Veterans Day season.
Their Portillo’s and “eatless” fundraiser topped out at 1,131 dollars for the Allen J. Lynch Medal of Honor Veterans’ Foundation and Honor Flight Chicago. The 8th grade teachers would like to thank everyone who supported our Portillo’s fundraiser and those who sent in generous donations.
Nancy Staiger from Honor Flight Chicago awarded two Batavia High School students with recognition for the amazing letters that they submitted last spring when they were 8th graders. Mrs. Staiger announced that Grace Cooper’s and Madelyn Graham’s letters will be included in every Mall Call packet to every Vietnam Veteran who flies with Honor Flight Chicago for years to come.
Mrs. Christoffel and Mrs. Schaeffer were up early with their students this weekend helping Angela Davis and the VFWs from Batavia and Aurora distribute Buddy Poppies in honor of Veterans Day at Woodman’s in North Aurora. Students also distributed Buddy Poppies during lunch at Rotolo Middle School earlier in the week.
8th grade students also participated in the Batavia VFW’s Veterans Day ceremony. Griffin Robertson, J.J. Gamiln, and Kaylie Harrison performed the POW / MIA Remembrance Service. The poem “Flanders Fields” was read by Nathan Brandon, Tess Powers, and Kayden Kristensen. We are very honored to have been invited to participate in this important community event.
Thank you, veterans, and thank you Rotolo Middle School students and staff for honoring our heroes in such a moving way.
