BPS101 Board Celebrated Outgoing Members and Welcomed New Members
Last night’s BPS101 Board of Education meeting marked a significant moment in Batavia’s education system as two newly elected board members were officially sworn into office, alongside two members who were reelected. The new members, Kristin Gehrels and Katy Swiecicki, were elected by the community to serve as board members and will work alongside existing board members to continue providing quality education to the students of our community.
The Board meeting was divided into two parts; the first portion of the Meeting addressed the business of the Board and celebrated the accomplishments of the two outgoing members, Sue Locke, who served for 12 years, and RJ Mathis, who served for four years. Additionally, the Board recognized the contributions of two outgoing Student Ambassadors from the Class of 2025, Diorite Ilengero and Zahra Ahmad. “It’s been such an honor serving the Board, and we have had so much fun,” shared Zahra after giving her final Student Ambassador update. In thanking Diorite and Zahra, Aaron Kilburg, Board Vice President, shared the following on behalf of the entire Board: “Your invaluable contributions to the development of the District’s five-year Strategic Plan will be a legacy that endures, and you were both front and center in driving that important work.”
At the beginning of the second part, the two returning members and the two new members took their oath of office, pledging to uphold the duties and responsibilities of their positions.
“We are pleased to welcome our newly elected board members, who bring a wealth of experience and dedication to our school district,” said Tom Kim, the District’s Superintendent. “We are confident that their contributions will help us continue to provide high-quality education and support for our students.”
The newly elected board members expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to serve on the board and make a positive impact on the education system in Batavia. “I am so happy to be up here with everybody,” said Katy Swiecicki. “I am excited to get to work for the kids and students of Batavia,“ said Kristin Gehrels.
The BPS101 Board of Education is committed to providing high-quality education to all students and looks forward to working with the newly elected board members to achieve this goal.
