Emergencies & Safety

Batavia Public School District 101 maintains a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) aligned with the Standard Response Protocol (SRP)—organized into five clear actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter. These steps reflect our system-wide strategy to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from incidents.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Schools are equipped with basic emergency supplies—food, water, first aid kits—and are regularly inspected.
  • Drills include fire, tornado, and lockdown to reinforce safe, practiced responses.

Secure vs. Lockdown

  • Secure: The school perimeter is secured; no entry or exit allowed; classes continue as normal.
  • Lockdown: Triggered when there is a threat inside the building. Responses may include run, hide, or fight.

Safety Infrastructure & Training

  • Annual safety inspections ensure secure facilities; visitors must a designated entrance during school hours.
  • All staff members are trained in key emergency procedures.
  • The District’s EOP governs prevention, preparation, response, and recovery, with coordination from local law enforcement and fire officials.

Staying Informed

  • Keep your contact information current in PowerSchool to receive updates via phone, text, or email.
  • Avoid calling the school during emergencies—information will be shared through Messenger, social media, and the District website.
  • Stay engaged through parent meetings, newsletters, and by discussing drills with your child.

Family Reunification

In the event of an emergency, students will be released only to authorized individuals listed in PowerSchool. A photo ID will be required to ensure safety and proper reunification.
