17: Extracurricular Activities and Athletics
Clubs, sports, music, and activities enrich the school experience. Participation is a privilege, and students are expected to represent the school with respect and responsibility on and off campus.

- Eligibility: Students must meet applicable academic, attendance, and conduct expectations.
- Code of Conduct: Students participating in extracurricular activities must follow applicable school, team, activity, IHSA/IESA, and BPS101 conduct expectations.
- Sportsmanship: Students are expected to respect teammates, opponents, coaches, sponsors, officials, and spectators.
- Physicals: A current sports physical is required before athletic participation.
- Concussion Protocols: Students suspected of sustaining a concussion must be removed from participation and may return only as permitted under applicable concussion protocols, law, and required medical clearance procedures.
- Travel: Students generally must use school transportation for events unless exceptions are approved.
- Consequences: Violations may result in suspension or removal from participation, in addition to any school discipline that may apply.
Policy / Legal Requirements
- Governed by Board Policy 7:240 (Conduct Code for Participants in Extracurricular Activities) and 7:300 (Extracurricular Athletics).
- Participation also follows IHSA/IESA bylaws.
- The Illinois Youth Sports Concussion Safety Act mandates concussion protocols.
- Students and parents must sign consent forms acknowledging the code of conduct and concussion awareness.
