12: Academic Programs and Supports

BPS101 provides a broad range of academic opportunities for every student. Our curriculum aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards and emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Beyond core subjects, students benefit from electives, arts, physical education, and enrichment programs.

Key Supports:

  • High-Ability (Gifted) Services: Enrichment and advanced coursework are available based on student needs.
  • English Learners (EL): Supports are provided until students reach English proficiency.
  • Intervention Services: Schools use data to identify student needs and provide academic, behavioral, or social-emotional support. Intervention services may include targeted instruction, progress monitoring, problem-solving teams, and adjustments to supports based on student response.
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: MTSS is a school improvement and decision-making framework used to organize supports, review data, and improve outcomes for students.
  • Specials & Electives: Art, music, PE, library/technology, and a wide array of electives at higher levels.
  • Physical Education & Health: Required by law, with opt-out rights for health/sex education units.
  • Library/Media: Access to books and digital resources; procedures exist for reviewing instructional materials.
  • Driver Education: Offered at the high school level (fee required, waivers available).
  • Alternative Programs: Opportunities exist for students who need different settings or schedules.
