09: Dress and Student Appearance
Students may dress and groom themselves in a manner consistent with their identity, culture, religion, and personal expression, as long as it does not create a health or safety hazard, substantially disrupt learning, interfere with participation in school activities, or violate Board policy.
Clothing, accessories, or personal items may not display or promote profanity, vulgarity, hate speech, harassment, discrimination, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, weapons, or other content prohibited by Board policy.
Students must wear footwear appropriate for school activities and safety. Additional safety-based dress expectations may apply in laboratories, physical education, athletics, career/technical activities, or other settings where clothing, footwear, or accessories could create a hazard.
Dress code concerns should be addressed privately, respectfully, and in a manner that minimizes embarrassment and loss of instructional time. Students may be asked to adjust clothing or change items when needed to comply with this section or Board policy.
Policy / Legal Requirements
Board Policy 7:160 authorizes schools to address student dress or grooming that presents a health or safety hazard, substantially disrupts the educational process, or violates Board policy.
