Superintendent Update: 215th Day

February 1, 2024

Dear Parents and Students, (Spanish)

A month into our new year, and it certainly has not been without some memorable weather adventures. Today marks my 215th day at BPS101. I am always filled with pride for being a part of BPS101 and grateful for your patience and understanding through the decisions we’ve made this month. Your feedback, especially from the Strategic Plan survey, has been invaluable in helping us shape our path forward. Our recent employee vision session highlighted the dedication across BPS101 to foster growth toward excellence as we look ahead to a shared future.

In the essence of continuing forward together, you will be seeing information from your PTOs, Principals, and other BPS101 partnership groups in the near future. A Google Form will be used to gather RSVPs for a parent vision session on the morning of March 16th. Your insights are crucial, and I look forward to your participation.

On that note, thanks to the collective input and voices from all stakeholders, the Administration recommended a capital projects plan to the Board of Education last semester. The Board of Education approved our 5-year facility development plan at the December Regular Board meeting. This capital projects plan prioritizes maintenance and construction projects that have been deemed the most essential needs for a warm, safe, and dry learning environment. All of this is outlined in the Board Packet, which I have linked HERE.

Also, the 2nd semester can be a little stressful for many of our students because one of the big things this semester represents is a time to think about classes for next year. For RMS Bulldogs, this includes thinking about what you do now to prepare you for success at BHS. Bulldogs, push yourself, take classes that drive your own curiosity, and that will appropriately challenge yourself. For students in our 6 elementary schools, this is a season of assessments, which is a time to see how much you have grown. In either event, I hope that our students are growing and becoming a better version of themselves.

On a final note, today marks the beginning of Black History Month. As I noted in September, it is essential to always appreciate the diversity and richness of our community. This month, we spotlight the contributions and impact of individuals to celebrate our nation’s Black history. BPS101 will continue to strive to become a school district that is more inclusive and allows for belonging better than yesterday. Please join me in celebrating this significant month. You can follow our Facebook or X (formerly known as Twitter) platforms for the celebrations we will push out this month.

As always, I am so grateful for all of the support our leaders, teachers, support staff, and I receive from you as parents and students. Take care and here’s to some sunnier and warmer days ahead!

Sincerely,

Tom Kim
Superintendent
