Four seats on the seven-member Batavia Public School District 101 Board of Education will be filled following the election to be held on April 9, 2013. Candidate packets, including nominating petition forms, are now available online or may be picked up at the Rosalie Jones Administration Center located at 335 W. Wilson Street, Batavia, Illinois on any business day between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

Candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions for signatures no earlier than September 25, 2012. A candidate’s nominating papers must be filed at Rosalie Jones Administration Center no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 and no later than Monday, December 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Nominating papers may be filed by the candidate in person, by mail, or by an agent.  Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received.

The four elected candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017.  To be eligible to serve, a School Board member must be, on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and of the BPS101 school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Elections are nonpartisan and board candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation. Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interests limitations set forth in State law.

Nominating papers consist of the following:
1) Nominating petitions signed by at least 50 registered voters residing within BPS101 school district. Petitions must be securely bound together with pages numbered consecutively, and each page must carry the notarized signature of the petition circulator.
2) Statement of candidacy, which includes a request that the candidate’s name be placed on the official ballot, the address of the candidate, the office sought, and a statement that the candidate is qualified for the office and has filed (or will file before the close of the petition filing period) a statement of economic interests, as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
3) A receipt from the Kane County Clerk showing that the candidate has filed the Statement of Economic Interests as noted above.
4) A loyalty oath, which is optional. A candidate may choose to file it or not.

Important dates for the candidates are:
Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012—First day prospective candidates may lawfully circulate nominating petitions for signatures for the April 9, 2013, BPS101 Board of Education election.
Monday, Dec. 17, 2012—First day candidates may file nominating papers with the Board Secretary for the April 9, 2013, school board election. Office opens at 8:00 a.m. and will close at 4:30 p.m. each day, except on the last day for filing, Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, when the office will remain open until 5:00 p.m. as required by law.
Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012—Lottery to determine the ballot position for candidates who filed nominating papers simultaneously on the first day of filing will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. in the Rosalie Jones Administration Center located at 335 W. Wilson Street, Batavia, Illinois.  The lottery is open to the public.
Monday, Dec. 24, 2012—Last day candidates may file nominating papers with the Board Secretary.  Office remains open until 5:00 p.m. Also, last day for candidates to file receipt for Statement of Economic Interests to accompany nominating papers.
Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013—Last day to file objections to the nominating papers of candidates who have filed for the April 9, 2013, School Board election.
Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013—Last day candidate may file notarized papers withdrawing nomination.
