PowerSchool Parent & Student Access

Access to the PowerSchool information system will enable both students and parents to monitor a student’s progress and performance in school.

Welcome to PowerSchool

Welcome to the PowerSchool help guide for students and parents/guardians.

PowerSchool is an easy to use, web-based student information system. It is intended to provide students, parents/guardians and teachers with a tool to communicate student performance. PowerSchool may be accessed from any place with Internet access. The application uses a secure link that encrypts the data to and from the end user.
In addition, each student and parent/guardian is provided with a separate username and password that allow access for only to the appropriate student records.
This web site is designed to guide Batavia's students and parents/guardians through accessing information available within PowerSchool.
Here you will find answers to many common questions regarding the PowerSchool system.

Logging In

The Log-in page allows authorized users to access the web pages containing their student's information. The username and password must be entered exactly as provided to you. Each username and password is unique to each student. If you have more than one child, you will have different logins for each child.
Login:
Students and parents/guardians may access the system by going to:
https://powerschool.bps101.net/public/
Additional links to the login screen can be found on the BHS website.
Students:  Your username and log-in is the same as your Novell username and log-in that you use to log-in to any district computer.
Parents:Your username and log-in was sent in a letter to you in January, 2010.  If you need additional assistance with your log-in and password, please send an e-mail to help@bps101.net stating your name and your student's name.  It may be neccesary for BPS to verify your identity if the e-mail that you send your request from does not match the parent/guardian e-mail address on record.

Current Grades & Attendance

The "Grades and Attendance" page is the default page that you see upon entering your username and password. To return to this page from any other menu selection, click on the blue PowerSchool logo or the "Grades and Attendance" icon at the top left of your screen.
This page displays an overview of the student's attendance information from the current and previous weeks and grade information.  There is a legend at the bottom of the screen to explain the meaning of all of the attendance markings. The course names, teachers’ names, term & semester grades and recorded attendance are also displayed on this screen.  All text items that are blue are links to additional information or email links to teachers.

A legend will appear at the bottom of the screen explaining all of the different letter codes used for student attendance.  If you believe that there are any attendance discrepancies, please contact the school's attendance office directly.

E-Mailing Teachers

If you click on the teacher's name on the "Grades and Attendance" page, your preferred e-mail account will open an e-mail from you with the teacher's e-mail address in the "To" line.  Please include your child's name in the e-mail.
Additional Information About Corresponding with Teachers
When a concern arises about attendance or a grade that appears in PowerSchool we ask that you follow these steps:

  1. Talk with your child first.
  2. Ask your child to speak with the teacher at school the next day.
  3. Review the course grading philosophy/system of the teacher. This may answer the question of why the student has received the grade or explain how the assignments add up to the current average.
  4. Check to see if there is an assignment description. In the Class Score Detail page if the assignment is listed in blue, you can click on the link for more detailed information. This may help to clarify what was involved or expected for a particular assignment.
  5. Check the date of the assignment. An assignment handed in late may receive deductions from its score.

--Please note that not all matters are best communicated via email and that a phone call or conference may be a better medium for the conversation. Email is typically suited to request or give general information, to arrange for a meeting or telephone call, or to follow up on an issue that has been previously discussed.
If a discrepancy is found please send one email to the attention of the teacher. We are all working together to achieve the highest level of consistency and accuracy possible. Please be patient as the Batavia High School continues with developing this program to be the best it can be.

Assignments & Descriptions

Clicking on the blue grade letter below or the number grade in term column (T1, T2, S1, T3, T4, or S2) will bring up a "Class Score Detail" page for the selected course.  This page displays the due date of the assignment, the name of the assignment, the category and the score received for each assignment.

Grading Systems
Each teacher constructs his/her grading system to best meet the objectives of the class. Some teachers work on a straight points system while others weight the scores according to assignment categories (Homework, Quizzes, Tests, etc.). Some teachers give grades for class participation. Some teachers do not accept late work. Our teachers inform all of their students at the beginning of the course what their expectations and grading policy will be. For this reason it is very important for a parent/guardian to read the grading philosophy contained in the class syllabus. Teachers have their class syllabus linked in the "Section Description" portion of this page.

Posting of Scores
Please be patient as it does take time to grade and post assignments. Some assignments, such as projects and research papers, take longer to grade. If you have questions about the posting of assignments, please contact the individual teachers about their policies and procedures. Some teachers will post this information within PowerSchool on the Class Score Detail page.
Grade Fluctuation
Grades can change dramatically in the first few weeks of each grading period. In the beginning of each grading period, you may see big shifts in the class average of your child. This is simply because when there are only one or two assignments in the grade book, a low or high score can make a dramatic change in the overall grade.

Class Information

Most teachers include information about their course in the "Section Description" portion of the "Class Score Detail" page.  To access this page, click on the letter grade or percent grade for a particular class.  Some teachers may use a link to provide the information, while others will simply display the information on the screen itself.  If you have any questions regarding a teacher's class information, please contact the teacher via e-mail.

Class Requests for Next Year

When the window of time is open for Course Requests, you may click on the "Class Registration" tab to view course requests or create course requests.  When the request time frame is over, you may view course requests for the next school year by selecting the "Class Registration" tab and choose "View Course Requests."

School Registration

During the spring & summer of each year, you will be able to update your child's demographic information through the Parent Portal.  This process will take the place of registration packets that were mailed home in the past.  When this feature is open, you will receive a communication from the school's administration with details for completing the registration process. This process must be completed in order to finish the course request process.

Windows IE Tips

If you have upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), you have most likely been plagued by endless popups while in PowerSchool.  To avoid this issue  click tools>options. Next choose the security tab and then click on custom level. Scroll down to Miscellaneous>Display Mixed Content and choose enable. This will get rid of those pesky popups. For more information on the impact of IE7 here is a link to read up on http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/ietechcol/cols/dnexpie/ie7_https_imps.asp

Calendars

You have the option to subscribe to a class's calendar.  At this time, the "Class Assignments Only" is the only option that is active.  You will need to have an online calendar account (iCal, Google calendar, etc.) set up.  You should be able to save the calendar and then open the calendar with your online calendar.  Because of the number of different online calendars available to users, BPS cannot support this calendar feature.  The following is a YouTube link that explains the process of subscribing using a Google calendar.
