Assessment

The District student assessment program provides information for determining individual student achievement and program needs, curriculum and instruction effectiveness, as well as school performance measured against District student learning objectives and state standards. Each spring, the Illinois State Board of Education requires that we assess student performance in grades 3-8 in reading and math, grades 4 and 7 in science, and grade 11 in reading, math, and science. Each fall and spring, preformance in reading and mathematics is assessed for students in grades 2-7 using a computer adaptive achievement test, the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). Eighth grade students are assessed only in the spring and 9th grade students are assessed at the beginning of each semester. The fall scores (or beginning of semester scores) are used by teachers to identify areas of strength for each student, as well as areas that need improvement. The spring scores are used to chart the growth that has occured over the course of the school year in reading and mathematics for each student. An individual student report is sent home to parents in the fourth quarter report card.
