On February 23, 2010, the Board of Education approved a fee-based after-school enrichment program for kindergarten-age students. The purpose of this letter is to provide you the details we referenced at Kindergarten Preview.

What is the After-School Enrichment Program?

Illinois Public Schools are required to provide a half day kindergarten program for students.  BPS101 only offers a half day kindergarten program.  However, students may enroll in the After-School Enrichment program to extend their time at school to 3:30 p.m. The After-School Enrichment program will allow students to practice and reinforce skills taught in kindergarten.

How much will the After-School Enrichment program cost?

Enrolling your child in the After-School Enrichment program will cost $250 per month for the first 4 months.  Once we have determined the actual cost of the program, the fee for the last five months will be adjusted. Once your child is selected for the After-School Enrichment program, you will be required to provide a deposit of $50 to be considered for enrollment by March 18, 2011.

How do I request participation in the After-School Enrichment program?

Within the next two weeks, you will be mailed a letter of intent. Please return this letter, indicating you want your child to participate in this program, by March 18, 2011.

If I request the After-School Enrichment program, am I guaranteed a spot?

At each school, there is a limited capacity for the After-School Enrichment program. If the number of requests exceeds this capacity, a lottery will be held. If you are not selected in your home school’s lottery and you are still interested, you may be able to enroll your child in one of the other five elementary schools in Batavia for the kindergarten year, subject to space availability. In this case, you will need to provide transportation to and from school.

When will I be notified about my request for the After-School Enrichment program?

You will be notified by mail by June 1, 2011.

What if I am not interested in the After-School Enrichment program?

Do not check the box in the optional section on the letter of intent and return it along with your completed registration packet by March 18, 2011.
