AGS Press Release

School will be held for all Alice Gustafson School students in Batavia on Tuesday, March 3, 2009.  Gustafson School was closed on Monday due to boiler failure which resulted in total loss of heat in the building.  The boilers at Gustafson School have become brittle with age.  The main boiler failed two weeks ago.  Parts could not be obtained or fabricated to repair the unit.  The backup boiler cracked and failed early Monday morning.  Temporary boilers will be installed this week.  A temporary housing plan has been developed for students until heat is restored.

Alice Gustafson students will report at their usual time on Tuesday at 9 a.m.  Students will go to their classrooms and buses will take students to other BPS101 schools.  Early dismissal is planned for 3 p.m. during the temporary housing plan.  This will allow buses to return students to Alice Gustafson and maintain the district regular busing schedule.

I want to personally thank all school staff, especially Gustafson School staff.  They have been nothing short of amazing.  They planned the move of an entire elementary school today; it may have been easier for them to move a mountain.  The teamwork was instrumental in the development of the relocation plan today.  Our staff has been an exceptional resource in working out the many details required for the implementation.
