April, 2008
At the March meeting of the Board of Education, action was taken to adjust the elementary school attendance boundaries. The action of the Board was the result of discussions on the uneven distribution of students throughout the six elementary buildings. The following boundary adjustments are effective beginning in August, 2008.
All elementary-aged children residing:
- in the Green Meadows Apartments will attend HC Storm School.
- east of Randall Road and west of the Fox River between Main and Wilson Streets will attend Alice Gustafson School.
- in the Amli Apartments of Batavia, east of Kirk Road will attend JB Nelson School.
- in Savannah Crossings Townehomes behind the Wal-Mart near Butterfield Road will attend JB Nelson School.
A map of the new elementary boundaries is available on the District 101 website (www.bps101.net) and in the office of any Batavia school.
Members of the Board of Education agreed to a grandfathering exception to the above adjustments. Any elementary student residing in one of the relocated areas who will be in fifth grade during the 2008-09 school year may remain at the current school. Transportation for these children, however will not be provided by Batavia Schools. Any family wishing to exercise the grandfathering option must send a letter of request to the building principal of the current school no later than May 2, 2008.
The staff of each elementary school is committed to making the transition for students and families as comfortable as possible. The transition plan for the relocation of students includes a visit and tour of the new school. More information about the transition activities will be distributed in the weeks ahead.
I look forward to working with the staff of the schools and the families of our district as we bring the new elementary school boundaries to reality.
